In September 2024, I was hired to manage social media and marketing for Shoreline Community College's theater department. I had previously volunteered for the department for a few shows over the years, but was given the freedom to begin developing and implementing a strategy on behalf of the program starting Fall Quarter 2024.

Alumni Spotlight
One of my goals for social media content for the program was to have more variety in addition to just advertising current shows. In order to educate the public and, most importantly, prospective students, about the program, I came up with a campaign highlighting alumni. I created a form for former students/actors to send photos and information about what they are doing now, and posted on social media. This helped establish credibility as a department, and engaged both current and former students.

The department hadn't been using email marketing before I took on this position, so this is one of the first things I implemented. Email addresses had already been captured over the last few years from auditions and ticket sales, so we already had a decently sized list of people to add. I also had been previously in contact with high school drama/music teachers in the area, and was able to add them to the list as well. This has been a great way to reach those in the community who may not be as active on social media.
Ads
Prior to beginning this role, the theatre department hadn't been utilizing paid ads. I worked with them to establish a budget so we could reach a wider audience to market the productions. Some accomplishments with these ads include:

Approximately ten students auditioning for a production that they learned about via an ad

Reaching 2,300 accounts with a cast announcement for a production. The ad reached 54% of this audience.

Reaching 5,200 accounts and receiving 100 clicks on the ticket link for the fall play.

Reaching 21,500 accounts and receiving 842 clicks for the winter musical.
Filtering Illegitimate Followers
Upon beginning this role, I was curious about how many illegitimate and bot accounts were following the account and I was shocked to see just how many there were! I have been continuously going through and removing these followers in order for our metrics to accurately reflect how our content is performing.
